Keeping your house heated in the winter

As the weather starts to get colder, we all start turning the heating up and wrapping ourselves in winter coats, hats, and scarves. But winter heating can be expensive, so what are some of the ways you can keep your home warmer without cranking up the thermostat?

Draughts

An easy way to keep the cold out and the heat in is by using draught excluders. Draughts coming in under doors can add a chill to the room. Try using a draught stop and see if you feel a difference. Draughts can also get in through windows, so if possible invest in weighty curtains that block out the cold. But you should still make use of the natural light while it lasts and open the curtains or blinds to let in some sunlight for a bit of warmth.

Insulation

If you haven’t already, invest in insulation for your home. Another fantastic investment you can make is to install double glazing windows. The additional thickness can help to keep the cold out and can help to keep your windows intact in the case of a bad storm. It’s better than spending money on winter heating!

Rugs

If you prefer bare floors to carpet, an extra rug can help to add a little extra warmth to a room and help to keep your feet warm. Bare floors can actually cause your house to lose 10% of warmth.

These tips can help to make all the difference when it comes to staying warm this winter. If you do opt for winter heating, keep furniture away from the radiators as it can block the heat from being able to enter the room properly.

If you do decide to do this, don’t risk a broken boiler. Regular maintenance is essential and can make the difference between a cosy winter and a cold one, as well as leaving you with costly repairs.

If you do find out that your boiler isn’t working properly and is inefficient, why not invest in a new one? A new boiler can help to keep your house warm without leaving you worrying about why the heating takes so long to start or why the pipes make noises and can be a lot more cost effective than older models.

If you think your boiler is on its way out, why not contact GOS Heating today on 01772 734 966 to see what we can do for you?
