Solar Water Heating
The most cost effective, affordable renewable energy technology currently available for domestic and commercial properties is Solar Thermal Water Heating. Solar thermal panels can provide up to 60% of your hot water and assist heating by transforming direct and diffused sunlight into useful heat.

How does it work? A solar energy system absorbs, retains, transfers and stores the sun's energy. The system requires a collector (solar panel), a controller, a pump and a store (hot water cylinder). The controller turns on a circulating pump to transfer heat from the collector to the storage cylinder.

For maximum efficiency, solar panels should be mounted on a south facing roof at an angle of 30 - 50˚.

Financial incentives. As well as lowering your fuel bills a grant of £300 is available now to domestic customers who install a Solar Hot Water system, this is known as a Renewable Heat Premium payment
which is intended to bridge the gap until the full Renewable Heat incentive scheme is launched in Summer 2012, where people in receipt of the RHI Premium payment will be able to receive long term (20 years) RHI tariff support.
